Volunteer: Rooted Together: Dinner Host

Rooted Together is NNH's cohort program supporting single mothers on their journey toward stability and self-sufficiency. As a Dinner Host, you'll provide the meal for one cohort gathering, and in doing so, you'll help create an experience where women feel genuinely cared for before the meeting even begins.

What this looks like:

Your main contribution is the meal. That can look however you want it to - a home-cooked dish or something catered. From there, you're welcome to help with table setup, add a personal touch to the space, or simply serve the meal. Whatever level of involvement feels right for you.

Meetings start at 5:30 PM and open with dinner. Feel free to adjust your start time based on what you're bringing or cooking in our fully equipped kitchen.

Who's a great fit

We're especially looking for women who understand this journey from the inside, whether as a former single mother yourself or someone raised by one. No facilitation experience needed, just warmth and a willingness to show up for someone else.

Details:

You're signing up for one specific meeting date, not an ongoing commitmentLove it? You're welcome to sign up again for a future dateOn-site at the Northside Neighborhood House main agencyFemale volunteers onlyYou are welcome to use our fully equipped kitchen for meal preparationBackground check required unless volunteering through an established partner group

Why it matters:

For many women in this cohort, walking into a room with a good meal waiting is a simple but powerful reminder that someone took time for them. That moment matters.

Volunteer: Front Desk Volunteer

Why This Role Matters

The front desk is often the first point of contact for people coming to Northside Neighborhood House for help. As a Front Desk Volunteer on our Stability team, you'll be the welcoming presence that sets the tone for a client's experience from the moment they walk in or call

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll answer phones and the front door, connect neighbors to the right staff and services, and help schedule appointments for people accessing our stability programs. You'll also play an important part in ensuring clients have what they need to qualify for services, which means paying attention to details and communicating clearly and kindly, even when a conversation is difficult.

This is a great fit for someone who is calm under pressure, comfortable working with people undergoing stressful situations, and takes pride in being organized and dependable. Previous customer service, reception, or social services experience is a plus, but not required.

Training

Important Note: Before scheduling your first shift to volunteer independently at the front desk, you'll complete an orientation and shadow our Scheduling Specialist to get comfortable with how we schedule clients and manage service requirements. We'll make sure you feel confident before you're on your own. This role involves real conversations with real people, and we want you set up to do it well.

Please contact our Chief Engagement Officer, Kalina, at kbagley@nnhouse.org to schedule your training session.
